Counter bitchslap
I have said repeatedly: apps and the app markets will continue to grow. This is a *paradigm shift* in computing. Just last month I reminded all:
apps are the *primary* means of accessing your smartphone -- not the mobile web -- but your smartphone and all its features, functions, services, capabilities and hardware for the foreseeable future
We are on track for 1 billion, no 2 billion smartphones -- then we focus on 5 billion smartphones. And other computing resources, like "personal computers" and "televisions" and "home energy monitors" will adopt the app. Those who have and especially those who continue to blind themselves to the app are wrong and are badly misleading you. Oh, and they probably should not apply for one of the many many many new job openings Google (yes, that Google) has for app developers.
See how nice I can be about stuff? Not like that CounterNotions guy. He bitchslaps one Fred Wilson (a vc) for making seriously bad calls by ignoring the power of the app.
In a nutshell, Google, one of the most opportunistic web companies on the planet and Wilson’s true north, has seen the light, recognized the centrality of mobile apps and decided to join the revolution. If it’s taken Google 300,000+ apps and 10 billion downloads to see the light, I don’t know how long it might take Wilson to change his anti-app tune and re-calibrate his portfolio.
