I've been asked my thoughts re iPhone in 2011. I suspect this is just a veiled attempt to toss my name onto the list of those, as if it matters, that believe OMG A VERIZON IPHONE!!!
My top 10 predictions for iPhone in 2011:
- OMG VERIZON IPHONE
- Significantly improved battery with iPhone 5
- All your iTunes are belong to us -- with iTunes in the cloud and all users have access to all their music/video
- Significantly improved iMovie/video editing and mash-up tools
- Deep integration with Facebook on the iPhone and possibly iTunes level (understand, Apple's biggest threat is Google. Facebook's biggest threat is Google.)
- Newest iPhones and iPods will include a sort of version 1.0 game controller that better leverages physical movements and is integrated with Apple TV and select games. This means that a game you play on your iPhone, you can also stream on to your TV, via Apple TV, and the iPhone becomes the controller (and a very good one -- not Wii/Kinect level, but decent).
- Stores will offer the iPhone 3GS for $0 with 2-year contract
- iPhone 5 will be available in several 'flavors' within 90 days after initial release (in black).
- Improved audio/video output but nothing revolutionary. To include a 7MP camera, plus 3-person FaceTime (in landscape mode)
- Improved processor/speed, but nothing revolutionary.
Bonus: iPad 2 for the enterprise will be sold for $300 in bulk quantities.
No, I'm not convinced we will have an iTunes music subscription. I'm not sure iTunes profits are being squeezed enough and the level of quality service delivery will be good enough for Apple to offer this just yet.
More to follow over the next several days...
