Piling on Robert Scoble and the anti Quora bandwagon. Silicon Valley catfight edition.

Hell hath no fury like the Silicon Valley digerati desperate for a bit of sanctioned annointing.

Early yesterday morning, after a couple cups of coffee and a bagel that was decent but criminally high in carbs, I saw yet another post dismissing Quora, this one from well-known Silicon Valley connected blogger, Robert Scoble. No big deal, I thought. The service got very popular, very fast, inside the Valley, and now those always edging to be at the front of the line figured now was the time to:

  • a) push it even harder
  • b) show off their creds by taking it down a peg

I wrote how this was silly and chastised Mr Scoble. Quora hasn't changed, only gotten a bit better at what it has always done. Then gave some recommendations on making the service even better.

But, you see, dear reader, I am rational. The Mr Scoble was being silly, and those piling on the service (supporters or opponents) were being truly Silicon Valley silly. My proof of this? Well, hours after my post, which as I said, was deeply rational, EVERY SITE THAT TALKS TECH IS NOW TALKING QUORA AND SCOBLE AND DEMANDING WE CHOOSE SIDES.

One big geek Hollywood. And one more very minor turf battle designed to keep you from accomplishing anything important and lasting.
