Re this weird Microsoft video attacking Google. Fire Ballmer.
It's a fun if not altogether funny assault by Microsoft on Google. More specifically, on Google's efforts to offer a Microsoft Office competitor.
The problem is not that Microsoft is right about this, which they are.
Nor is the problem that the video itself is just peculiar.
The problem, of course, is that Microsoft actually has to do this.
They still -- still! -- have no viable competitor to Android and iPhone.
There is no Windows tablet you can get at the Best Buy store. Still.
Macs are growing while PC sales are stagnating. The world has not come out of a protracted recession, meaning no one is in the mood to pay big money for Windows licensing.
And Microsoft has to worry about protecting its Office franchise?
That's a lot of wars, not all of which they can win though all of which they could lose.
Seriously: fire Ballmer. I am not a Ballmer hater. The man possesses a prodigious skillset. But he is not the right person for Microsoft as it exists today, in today's reality.
He is the Mitt Romney of the tech world. Thirty or forty years ago he would have ruled -- successfully -- over General Motors. Or ATT. Or been President of the United States of America.
We are not in that world and never will be again.
