This is an unacceptable accusation

Google checked once. Twice. Three times.

Yep, China -- the government of China -- is blocking access to Gmail and otherwise messing with the service inside its borders.

China denies this.

I think we're all in agreement that we believe China is straight out lying about this. People yearning to be free from around the world probably spooked them.

The question now, of course, is what next? If anything?

We are all in agreement that Google won't abandon the world's most populous market, the planet's second largest economy. I think we all know that if we want smartphones, at least iPhones or Androids, that we pretty much have to take product from China. No boycott of China in America, that's for sure. And I'm guessing WalMart holds as much sway on Capitol Hill as does Slicon Valley. What, then?

I keep hearing about Foxconn opening up a giant iPhone making factory in Brazil. Can't come soon enough, you ask me. The people of America, and the leading, most innovative companies in America, like Google and Apple, can be pushed around by China. And won't hit back.

That is unacceptable.

Decades ago, several companies decided that they weren't going to let high-priced American labor -- and unions -- dictate their costs or managing their business. We need to steal from that playbook. And leave China behind. Even if you don't care about Google, or don't care what China does in China to its people, you ought to be pissed that they have so much impact on our lives.

Suggestions as to how we can begin limiting this right now?
